To give some examples: Radical Forgiveness by Colin C. Tipping, Total Forgiveness by RT Kendall, Forgiveness: Finding Peace Through Letting go by Adam Hamilton, Forgiveness: A Memoir by Chiquis Rivera, Forgiveness: The Greatest Healer of All by Neale Donald Walsch and Gerald G. Jampolsky (Author), Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything, by Iyanla Vanzant the list goes on and on.
Even Archbishop Desmond Tutu has a book out; Book of Forgiving: The Fourfold Path for Healing Ourselves and Our World.
Many of these books pre-date my own book Forgiveness is Power, so you might wonder why I still went ahead and wrote it with so many others books on forgiveness already available. I wanted to write something very different from the currently available books on forgiveness. Most books on Forgiveness take and authoritative stance – and quote the Bible as their source of authority. Others use Course in Miracles at their voice of authority and quote that instead.
The problem with quoting an authority to back up the importance of forgiveness is that it can very easily sound like forgiveness is something we “should” do. This just adds to the weight of guilt that many people feel from not being as forgiving as they would like to be.
I see forgiveness as something we do naturally and easily given the right approach. By appealing to people’s common sense and their own normal experience of daily life it becomes very obvious that forgiveness is the only sane and happy way to live. Yet my aim in the book is not that people will absorb this as an idea; the aim of the book is that people will have it as an experience. Rather than forgiveness as being seen as something difficult and out of reach (which is what it is for many people); my goal is to offer a very simple technique and encourage people to “have a go” so that they can experience for themselves that it is a very normal and natural thing for them to do.
It is not forgiveness that is difficult; it is unforgiveness that is difficult. It is not forgiveness which takes a lot of effort; it is unforgiveness which takes a lot of effort. It is not forgiveness which is complicated; it is unforgiveness which is complicated.
I hope you will enjoy my book and may it help you free yourself form the past and come to know that you truly can forgive easily and naturally and experience for yourself the peace and freedom which forgiveness brings.
